‘A lack of women in senior roles, the charity sector appears to be ahead of the game’
Last week, Rebecca Cooney from Third Sector reported on ‘the new generation of female leaders standing up for the charity sector’. The article celebrates the now female chief executives of Acevo, Navca and the ACF. They join long-serving leaders such as Debra Allcock Tyler, chief executive of the Directory of Social Change, Caron Bradshaw of the Charity Finance Group and DSC’s chair, and Ros Oakley of the Association of Chairs.
In terms of diversity, the article acknowledges that this change is ‘only the beginning’ – Caron Bradshaw says ‘there are still too few people from BAME backgrounds, from working-class backgrounds, those with disabilities or people who are openly from the LGBTQ+ community at the top of the sector’.
